ORANGE, NJ – Commissioner Joseph L. Fiordaliso has been named to the Board of Directors of The First Occupational Center of New Jersey.
Commissioner Fiordaliso serves on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Richard Codey as well as Legislative District Director.
A resident of Livingston, Commissioner Fiordaliso served as the Director of Government Relations for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, the largest healthcare provider in New Jersey. He was an educator at Vailsburg High School and Bloomfield High School, respectively, and an adjunct professor of accounting at the County College of Morris for 12 years.
Commissioner Fiordaliso has been very active in local politics. He served on the Livingston Township Council for three terms, and served as Mayor three times during his tenure. In 1990 he was appointed by the Essex County Executive to serve as the Director of Planning and Economic Development. He has worked extensively with the New Jersey Democratic State Committee and serves on the Essex County Democratic Executive Committee, and on the Board of Trustees of both Essex County College & West Essex YMCA. In 2003 he was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Livingston Chapter of Unico National.
The First Occupational Center of New Jersey is the state’s oldest and largest vocational and job placement agency, providing services to the developmentally and physically challenged, elderly and economically disadvantaged New Jersey residents and their families since 1954. OCNJ uses an entrepreneurial approach to training and securing jobs with the goal of helping workers transition from dependence to independence. The Center provides jobs through its seven wholly-owned and operated companies, including Recycling, Building Services and Groundskeeping, Production and Printing Services, Micrographics, Abbry Security, and the OCNJ Driving School, as well as placing its graduates in businesses within the community.
