Since 1991, The Lakeside School, a New Jersey Department of Education approved private school for the disabled, has been effectively educating physically, emotionally, behaviorally, and learning disabled students to succeed in life. Adolescents, ages fourteen through twenty-one, are provided the unique opportunity of utilizing a work-study curriculum that enables them to become independent, contributing members of their communities. Students classified as Cognitively Impaired (mild / moderate / severe), Multiply Disabled, Behaviorally Disabled, and Learning Disabled are taught how to effectively handle life's challenges, so that they will be able to lead full, meaningful, and productive lives. As the educational division of The First Occupational Center of New Jersey (OCNJ), Lakeside School is in a unique position to offer students, and their families, guidance and support on the path from dependence to independence. Through its link with OCNJ, Lakeside School has access to vocational training programs, facilities and personnel with a fifty-year history of providing training and jobs for thousands of New Jersey's disabled and disadvantaged citizens. This tradition of excellence is reflected throughout the Lakside School curriculum and program. |
