| OCNJ assists individuals to move into a changing job market by providing skills training in labor demand occupations. Graduates receive certificates upon course completion. OCNJ has locations throughout New Jersey, including facilities in Orange, Newark, Elizabeth, and Bloomfield. Each building is fully accessible to persons with physical disabilities.
Who Does OCNJ Serve? Programs at The First Occupational Center of New Jersey were created to break down the barriers to employment. Programs are available for those who are socio-economically disadvantaged, unemployed and under-employed, welfare recipients, or those who have a disability or another barrier to employment. Upon referral, an intake and a brief evaluation are scheduled. The evaluation consists of educational, aptitude, ability and interest assessments. The evaluation helps the participant and the staff determine what services would best enable the individual to enter the workforce and succeed. |
The programs offered at The First Occupational Center of New Jersey have an established track record of placement after graduation. Our counselors work with each individual to complete the job search process by offering assistance in resume writing, job readiness, interview techniques and job etiquette. The Center encourages each individual to think of their new job as a NEW BEGINNING, an opportunity to use their talents and new skills as they establish their career path. The Workplace Navigation Skills learned in class, and the supports provided by the Center after employment, ensure job security for them. In fact, almost 90% of program graduates retain employment for a year after obtaining a job. To see a list of our skills training programs that we have available please click here.
